I have no clue why he ended up in a lunatic asylum. I know Thomas Benton Smith ended up in one due to a brain injury caused by Colonel McMillen, and Col. John G. Coltart also ended up in one, but don't know why.
Maybe Franck despaired over the loss of life in the war and the loss of his brother Lo. I wonder if more info is out there, but from what I found way back, nothing really has come up.
