Arman. A shipbuilding company in Bordeaux, France, that secretly built ironclads for the Confederacy. The warships were officially listed as being sold to Italy.

From "The Language of the Civil War" John D. Wright page 13.

Actually, not Italy. They (the ironclad rams) were listed as being built for Egypt, and as such were named 'Sphinx' and 'Cheops.' When the French government intervened to prevent their delivery to the Confederacy, 'Sphinx' was sold to Denmark, becoming the Staerkodder, and 'Cheops' to Prussia, becoming the Prinz Adalbert; but the war between the two countries over the Schleswig-Holstein area ended before they were delivered, and the Danish looked for a buyer for Staerkodder; and they ended up selling it to the Confederacy, and she was renamed Stonewall.

(This was not the final name for the vessel... 'Sphinx'-Staerkodder-Stonewall was sold after the Civil War to the Shogun of Japan, but was seized by the Emperor's forces upon arrival, and as Kotetsu, she served in the naval actions of the Meiji Restoration, including the bombardment of Hakodate. Sometime later, she was renamed a final time: Adzuma. One work on the topic (McBride) claims she was eventually renamed once more, to Mikasa, but I haven't seen anything to substantiate that.)
