The Texas General Land Office, while searching for underwater wreckage from Hurricane Ike "rediscovered" the wreckage of the blockade-runner Arcadia which ran aground and was destroyed by the USS Virginia Feb. 6, 1865 by Brazzoria County, Texas. They did a complete sonar scan of the wreck, which will help in future research of the ship.

However, locals and fishermen had known about it for years. Actually, until Hurricane Carla in 1961, a smokestack from the ship could still be seen and locals referred to the area as "The Boilers."

It had been examined in the late 1960s and early 1970s and included in the Texas Archaeological Sites.

It is always interesting when something lost is found again.

It is never 'really' found until 'qualified' and 'certified' academic's find it.(usually by making inquies of the 'locals', but that is rarely mentioned on the T.V. specials and press conferences)
