Appomattox Paroles

This may be a little much to ask but would love to see any Wiggington, Wigginton, Wigington, Wiginton, or Wiggonton. Maj John Wiggonton (often the spelling he used, but sometimes others as well) was the surrendering officer of the 48th AL Infantry so I know he was there. May have some others too. Thank you!!

The entire book can be found on line here.
Thanks for the link. A quick review of the Texas Brigade of four regiments finds they have been reduced to 64 officers and 557 enlisted men. Of the approximately 1500 men in 11 companies who had enlisted in the 1st Regiment of Texas Infantry during the course of the war, only 16 officers and 133 men are listed as paroled at Appomattox.

Four companies were commanded by captains, four by lieutenants, two by sergeants, and Company B no longer existed. Companies A & F each had one officer and two enlisted men. The largest, Company G, listed two officers and twenty-six enlisted men.

The numbers found on this list of Paroles of the ANV reminds me of a quote made as Gen Johnston's army moved forward at the Battle of Bentonville, NC. ".... with colors flying and the battle in such perfect order .... it looked like a picture ...... it was a painful sight to see how close their battle flags were together, regiments being scarcely larger than companies and a division not much larger than a regiment should be."
