On page 9 of "The War Outside my Window", Leroy's entry for 2/15 states that his mother made some apple float.

The real Turkish delight comes in a small cardboard box that has a string to open the paper around it. Then little puffs of powdered sugar waft out. You open the paper and... nirvana! I was raised on it from a very early age. When Narnia came out, I was in heaven because people who thought they'd like Turkish delight didn't, and I got a lot of it. The tarted up version of it as in Apple Cotlets is close but not quite the same thing.
