A few eye candy items.
2 cartridge boxes...the one with the brass US is stamped Watertown 1864 and both have their original tins.
Here is the artillery box I spoke about earlier. No makers mark but a 23 is pressed into the lib and the inner leathers has small impressed stars.
The over the shoulder strap is unmarked.
The cavarly belt is pure buff and still has its buff sabre straps.
There is a nice US infantry buckle on its belt. The buckle is puppy paw.
I have an extra over the should strap for an officers belt..
The Cavalry rifle sling has various Mark's. I see Sprinfield Mass by the bat wing and an oval mark by that. Also there are 2 sets of initials carves it.
You see the Cavalry box marker RIM in an oval on the front.
A tired old pistol box and 2 cap boxes
Last but not least is an officers belt, buckle and 2 straps. Ussd well but still solid.
Nice right?

Nice grouping.

So tell me, what, if anything are you using on the leather to preserve them? I’ve used olive oil on an old saddle to hydrate it. I remember my folks using neatsfoot oil on their leather jackets..my Mom had a long Burgundy trench coat and once a year she would stand on the patio while my Dad rubber the leather coat/her...teehee!

Lol. There are a off color straight line there and all they'd up but I shall pass.
Once a year I out 3 cups water and 1 cup rubbing alcohol and then when dry I use Pecards but sparingly. Seems to work well for me.
Ps...the water and alcohol will kill any mold.or.mildew that may be hiding. Dont soak it, dry it and lsdt it in the air for a bit
To be super sure it is dry...then pecards

Neatsfoot oil is supposedly fine for NEW leather, but can turn antique leather into a spongy mess - don't use it on pieces like these!

It has been fun to find this stuff over the years but I got spoiled. I would buy a buckls.of a few bucks and a canteen for less then 10. Not the case these daze and so not as much fun.
I've posted mine before, but this is most of it other than a U.S. Navy primer pouch below, M.1864 cartridge box, and cavalry pistol cartridge pouch. I agree with you about the prices - I paid $17 for the Gaylord box c/w strap and brass above, but of course that was in the 1960's!
