Any help on a little mystery I have been researching?

While researching guerilla activity in middle Tennessee, I came across a passage from a book "A Narrative of Service with the Third Wisconsin Infantry.
BY JULIAN WISNER HINKLEY

Captain of Company E, and sometime Acting Major
of said Regiment

The passage reads like this.....

Shortly after we arrived, our mounted men captured a Confederate officer named Boone, a grand-
son of the famous Daniel. On him was found a list of all the guerrillas in the county. When I examined
him, he told me that he had been sent to muster these fellows into the Confederate army;
but his plans were spoiled. Instead he went to Johnson's Island, a prisoner, and his little mem-
orandum book remained in my possession.

My question is this.......... Does anyone have any idea who this Officer Boone was? This story is related as having occurred in the vicinity of Fayetteville, Tn in early 1864. The only Officer Boone I can think of is Captain Nathan Boone, of Forrest's Escort, who was from Booneville, just North of Fayetteville. Maybe there is someone with resources I don't have that would be able to tell me of any Officer named Boone that was sent to Johnson's Island, in early 1864.

Let me look, this is from my family tree, Captain Nathan Forrest Boone, Captain Boone joined the Tennessee volunteers at age 16 to fight Mexico. During the civil war he was a member of the Staff and Escort Company of General Nathan Bedford Forrest. After the war he served as Sheriff of Lincoln County and was appointed as warden of the State Prison in Nashville, TN. His father was Samuel Boone, and his father was Rev Benjamin Boone. Starting with Daniel Boones father Squire, it goes
Squire Maugridge Boone, I

Benjamin Maugridge Boone, I
his brother
John Boone, I
his son
Rev. Benjamin Boone
his son
Samuel Boone
his son
Captain Nathan Forrest Boone
his son
Captain Nathan Forrest Boone is my fourth cousin five times removed. He had 3 brothers that served in the CSA army, another brother was a Colonel in the union army.

Uncle John Hugh L.W. Boone was his brother,
Known as Uncle John, served in General Nathan Bedford Forrest Escort, was one of the bravest and was a favorite of his comrades.
First enlisted as a private with the 8th Tennessee Regiment until Forrest Escort was raised. Brother Captain Abner Steed Boone,
Co.F 41st Tennessee Infantry CSA
Killed in the Battle of Raymond, Mississippi. That is all I have.

This is the problem I have had trying to find this officer Boone. The obvious candidate is Nathan Boone. Why would someone not from Tennessee be riding around with a list of guerillas in middle Tennessee?
In that stage of the war, many times a Colonel would be sent out to gather up conscripts. He would have a skeleton party with him no doubt, to make the search easier and safer. Booneville, Mississippi might be a logical origin, whereby a party was sent out from Roddy or Forrest, or the commanders in that area, with regimental attachments composed of different states. Booneville was incorporated in 1861, is in the Northeastern section, and named after R. H. Boone, a relative of Daniel. I passed through there in 1990 and seem to remember 'Ralph' Boone as the designated 'R'.
Lubliner.

I believe that is why this mystery has been so difficult to unravel. Obviously an association with guerilla activity wasn't a good thing. The thing is he was caught with a list. Nobody involved with guerilla activity is going to say anything. I don't think the Boone that was captured was bragging about being related to Daniel Boone. I believe that Captain Hinkley, of the Wisconsin Infantry was bragging about it.
The mystery is that THE Daniel Boone did indeed have a son named Nathan Boone, so it would be logical to think of Captain Nathan Boone of Forrest's Escort.
Nathan Boone, son of Daniel, died before the Civil War. (1781, KY-1856, MO).
