This article was written by an Irish correspondent for the New York Evangelist, a Presbyterian newspaper. It reports on Irish immigration to the United States in 1863. Most, but not all, of the immigrants are indigenous Catholics. The correspondent adopts a mocking tone towards them, as well as to the commander of the Irish Brigade, Thomas Francis Meagher.
