Jenkin Lloyd Jones (1843-1918) was born in Wales but grew up in Ixonia, Jefferson County. As soon as he turned 18 he enlisted as a private in the 6th Wisconsin Light Artillery. This 400-page book consists of his diary entries throughout the war. Jones describes the reality of daily life for soldiers in the field in detail and with good humor. He also recounts the Battle of Corinth, the sieges of Vicksburg and Chattanooga, and the battles at Champion Hill, Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge.
