While doing some research just now, I found this little blurb from the Alexandria Gazette (VA), April 30, 1866. As it is very appropriate for the upcoming holiday, I wanted to share it:
THE LODGE OF SORROW - In Columbus, Mississippi, on the 16th instant, was commemorated by the Masonic fraternity, the death of members of that fraternity, who fell in the late war. The services were solemn beyond description, and the 'Dead Roll' called by the Marshal was interrupted by the irrepressible sobs of those who remembered the virtues of those who had lain aside the implements of labor and ascended to that 'Royal Arch' not built with hands, eternal in the heavens.
