I have yet to go and visit Monument Avenue in Richmond, because I hear that there are no more statues and that each of the bases have been tagged and spray-painted with God knows what.
My thought’s would be to leave all the monuments in place and add monuments of Africa Americans who were involved in the war/battle/conflict and the role they played (One of my favorite heroes George Washington Carver).
I would add the following caveat, remember those walking tours you could take put the headphones on and as you near the monument it would tell you the story?
That’s what I’d like to see and it would tell the whole story of each monument, that persons history before during and after the war as well as the sculptor or artist who will created the work.
Attached are a few photos of the monument in Norfolk, When it was meticulously taken apart and put in storage and then returned. But I have all this as part of my own history the last photo being General Lee and my great great great great grandfather after the war in Richmond.
