Today while driving through Ionia, Michigan I stopped at the county courthouse.

Although the monument is fine and looks good, I am wondering about its placement. It does not seem to really fit in with the monument it stands if front of. It seems just to close to the older monument and it appears that the two monuments are meant to be joined together.

I can understand wanting to put up the monument to Alanzo Woodruff, but question where it was put. The courthouse has a huge lawn and in my opinion adding such a modern monument to the older monument distracts from both monuments. This makes me wonder about adding addition monuments to Confederate monuments. I am not opposed to doing so, but perhaps adding monuments to existing monument should be done in a way the does not distract from either monument.
