The 14th Corps symbol lived on in the 87th Infantry Division patch, although it's nickname was the Golden Acorn. My great-grandfather was a member of the 14th Corps. They are very well carved. Thanks for posting them.
Oh my, I have to admit something extremely stupid ...
When I first read the headline early this morning I understood they had acorns carved f o r minieballs and was wondering if someone could get seriously injured or even killed by an acorn fired at him...
Must be the heat. Germany currently suffers from an unusual heatwave... Acorns for minieballs .... tssss....
I was not familiar with this practice, but that's not unusual--I'm clueless about LOTS of things. This is very interesting and I'm glad to have a chance to see these carved bullets.
