I've just read the introduction, but that does give a little more insight into the Grants and I only found out recently that Julia had done some work in the hospitals. It seems she and her husband were both too affected by it to lend much assistance except by providing a welcoming place for Mrs Wittenmyer to stay.
 
Thanks for sharing this awesome article. There are just certain people that can handle the gift of doing that type of work. The medical staff the doctors, nurses, and others who administer aid to the wounded men the blood, the torn up body by artillery shells :cannon::bomb:...and the gun shot wounds that broke the bones leading to an
amputation. Must have been an overwhelming shock! That would get to you over time.
