I've just run across a website that may be of interest to CWT members researching old photographs. (It's likely already familiar to the serious photography researchers among the membership, but it was news to me.) The site, www.langdonroad.com, includes alphabetical and state lists of photographers active in the US from 1844 to 1950. The site says its lists are compiled from city directories, business and industry directories, classified advertising, tax lists, census, published sources and photographer's marks on the images themselves. One section of the site includes a photo gallery, and another provides examples for viewers to use in dating photographs based on the clothing worn by the subjects.
