I don't find this newspaper online, so unable to find the rest of the series or story - but this part is posted online by Wisconsin Historical Society. Fascinating in the detail it provides ... the Captain Sax (Saxe) he mentions becomes the first Union officer killed at Shiloh. The story about not having ammunition until the night before the battle is rather chilling .... and the mainly Irish 17th he mentions "rebelling" were joining but not yet mustered in February 1862, so what did the 16th respond to armed (fist fight, riot...?). Interesting soldiers tale but this one belongs in the battle forum.
