A Good Table Sauce - Take one gallon of tomatoes, was and simmer in three quarts of water until nearly done, Strain through a sieve. Add two tablespoonfuls of each of the spices- ginger, mace, black pepper, allspice and salt, and one of cayenne pepper. Boil down to one quart. Pour one pint best vinegar, and then pass through a hair sieve. Bottle in a half pint bottle, cork securely, and keep in a cool place.
I have a question about the word seive/sieve. Spell check corrests me but the newspaper spells it seive.
