Is the Ballard a cartridge rifle and what caliber might that?

The ballard is 44 rim fire but it has a convertible hammer and it will shoot 44 American brass

I would say Ballard makes the finest shooting sport rifles in America.
I figured this rifle wouldn’t be a 50 cal. Thanks for the info. I went to a contest and there was the most beautiful Old Ballard’s. Still winning matches.
