The Kilpatrick Skedaddle
(a “sing-a-long” to the tune: Hank Williams “Kaw-Liga”)

— 1 —
In 65 with Sherman, Kilpatrick caused much stress,
but being he’s a “ladies man” would soon bring him distress.
Kil—pat—rick - Having fun and never paid a price.
You must have thought your life was good and nice.

He got a little confident the “gods” were on his side,
He left his troops to have some fun - filled up with his pride.
Kil—pat—rick - you thought you’d’ve an evening of “delight”,
but the enemy was coming for a fight.

Oh Poor Kilpatrick you never had a chance
Oh Poor Kilpatrick you did the nightshirt dance.
Is it any wonder that you’re in a mess,
Kilpatrick - you had no time to dress

— 2 —
When morning came he went outside to have a quick look see,
Surprise and shock would fill his face to see the enemy.
Kil-pat-rick - a pointed gun directly to your eye.
Say your prayers for you are going to die.

The “gods” again were with you - that’s your life of course,
“I’m not the guy your looking for he’s getting on that horse”.
Kil-pat-rick - they’re off and running on a wild goose chase.
So hide and get that smirk right off your face.

Oh Poor Kilpatrick you always wanted fame,
Oh Poor Kilpatrick you made yourself a name
Don’t let yourself get rattled, for you might win this battle,
Kilpatrick - - now you best skedaddle!!!!

— 3 & Question —
Kilpatrick caused much mayhem on the enemy could “stomp”,
We know that he ran quickly and did hide in a _________?
Kil-pat-rick you always thought the enemy you could whip,
The Captain sent to find you was _______.

Oh Poor Kilpatrick what are you to do?
Oh Poor Kilpatrick good luck follows you.
The enemy had their chance, but you just did your dance.
The only prize the Reb’s got were your pants!!

Nice poem DBF

1. Mary Virginia Wade was called “Gin” or “Ginnie” as a child.

2. a. Kilpatrick caused much mayhem on the enemy could “stomp”,
We know that he ran quickly and did hide in a swamp.
b. Kilpatrick you always thought the enemy you could whip, The Captain sent to find you was Bostick. *

* I'm pretty sure this will get marked wrong, but it rhymes with whip, and Captain Bostick was indeed sent to find Kilpatrick. The other word I would use is tricked, but that is a poor rhyme. Not impressed with this trivia question in the slightest.

Edit - You got the correct answer.

This question was in the form of a riddle. Some players like riddles and some don't like them so much, but the rules specifically permit them.

I might have enjoyed the question more if I were familiar with the tune to which it was supposed to be sung. :whistling:

Mary Virginia Wade, of the Battle of Gettysburg fame, was known as "Ginnie", before the newspapers published it as "Jenny".

Bonus: These lyrics describe Judson Kilpatrick, who recklessly led a Union cavalry termed "Kill-cavalry", and delighted in destroying Southern property. Of Kilpatrick, Sherman stated, "I know that Kilpatrick is a he-- of a da-- fool, but I want just that sort of a man..."

The blanks to be filled refer to Kilpatrick's escapade after destroying Columbia, SC. Wade Hampton raided his camp while he was in bed with a young woman from that city. He fled in his underclothes, likely to a swamp. "Kilpatrick's Shirttail Skedaddle" or the Battle of Monroe's Crossroads ensued.

The Bonus blanks: "swamp" and ____ .

real name: MARY VIRGINIA WADE
real nickname: "GIN" or "GINNIE"

Born on May 21, 1843, in the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Mary Virginia Wade was called “Gin” or “Ginnie” as a child. But due to an apparent newspaper inaccuracy, she has become known to history as “Jennie.” Her father, a tailor, had frequent brushes with the law and was eventually confined to the poorhouse as a lunatic. With him out of the picture, Wade made ends meet by working as a seamstress alongside her mother. The two also served as caregivers for a 6-year-old disabled boy named Isaac Brinkerhoff.
