From http://www.docsouth.unc.edu/fpn/houghton/houghton.html; W. R. Houghton and M. B. Houghton, Two Boys in the Civil War and After:
"I" am Mitchell B. Houghton. "With my two bunk companions for partners I started a ring factory. These men were Johnathan Smith, farmer and blacksmith and R. M. Espy a farmer, both from Henry county, Alabama." Fascinating account! Thanks, @lelliot19, for the interesting question!

I am M. B. (Mitchell Bennett) Houghton,1845?- My partners were Johnathan Smith, farmer and blacksmith and R. M. Espy a farmer, both from Henry county, Alabama. Smith was somewhat of a genius at tinkering, Espy had no skill in any particular line and I was an untrained boy with a bent toward barter and some tact as a salesman.

William Robert Houghton was his name. Johnathan Smith, and R. M. Espy both from Henry county Alabama were the names of his two partners in Camp Morton.

Two boys in the Civil War and After
by William Robert Houghton

Edit - Good try, 11thMississippiPvt, but unfortunately incorrect. William Robert Houghton was the brother of Mitchell B. Houghton and it was Mitchell, not William, who was involved with the ring factory.

Welcome to the trivia game and to CivilWarTalk. If you haven't done so already, you're invited to stop by the New Recruits Meet & Greet forum and introduce yourself to some more CivilWarTalkers.

Hope you'll come back and play again.

Ring Factory info http://docsouth.unc.edu/fpn/houghton/houghton.html pp. 46-47

Edit - I see that a number of our players found the indicated source with the Ring Factory info. Congratulations to all of you who were sufficiently dedicated to read all the way through to pages 46 and 47, and to remember that at that point the book was talking about the experiences of Michael, rather than William.
