Under a Summer Sun
(to the tune “Under the BoardWalk”)
1.
We’re in Petersburg, and the Yanks are all around,
supplies are tight, nothing can be found.
My men are hungry, no food to spare,
then our scouts report, it’s an answer to prayer.
(Under a summer sun) they saw a cattle herd,
(Under a summer sun) now our hunger’s stirred.
(Under a summer sun) just around the bend,
(Under a summer sun) that’s where they’re penned.
Under a Summer Sun!! Summer Sun!!
2.
It’s been hard on the troops, when we’re in a siege,
today my men will be, first rate cattle thieves.
We’re on a mission, to find some food,
to have success, we must be shrewd.
(Under a summer sun) at the break of day,
(Under a summer sun) now we’re on the way.
(Under a summer sun) just one more night.
(Under a summer sun) then we’ll have this fight,
Under a Summer Sun!! Summer Sun!!
3.
We can see the herd, as they’re grazing in the grass,
now we’re off and running, fighting’s done at last.
My men were desperate, to complete this feat,
motivated, you see, they only want to eat.
(Under a summer sun) we got our grub,
(Under a summer sun) manna from above,
(Under a summer sun) it sure was great,
(Under a summer sun) we are eating steaks!!
Under a Summer Sun!! Summer Sun!!!
