A Magnificent Man With His Flying Machine
(a slight variation of the tune “Those Magnificent Men in their “Flying Machines”)
1.
A fellow in Richmond decided one day,
as he looked to the sky, I’ll fly up and away.
So he took his vision and drew up some plans,
of a flying machine to swoop over the land.
My machine will be different, no hot air and gas,
but a rotary engine - a weapon of class.
A machine that’s designed, to fight in this war,
the scariest ever an enemy saw.
Chorus
It climbs up - down - flying around,
targeting Yankees wherever they’re found.
Could it be done? - remains to be seen,
this amazing design of his flying machine.
2.
He got the attention of men at the top,
the sky was the limit, but yet he’d be stopped.
It never could fly, but that was just fine,
as this clever man was ahead of his time.
His plan never flourished, but it was sure neat,
and now he’s back working on his patients’ teeth,
A weapon designed yet alas never seen,
this gentlemen’s dream of a flying machine!
Chorus:
No up! - no down! - no flying around!
for a steam engine’s heavy, can’t get off the ground.
His - plan - it was too soon -
the army now goes back to using balloons.
