Question: The third governor of the State of New Jersey had a granddaughter who eventually became the wife of a prominent CSA government official. Whose wife was she?

Hint: For the purposes of this question, neither Elisha Lawrence nor Thomas Henderson should be considered "governors" of New Jersey. They served as "acting" governors.

The granddaughter was Varina Howell, second wife of the President of the Confederate States of America, Jefferson Davis.

About the 3rd Governor of New Jersey, Richard Howell:
"He succeeded Thomas Henderson as Governor and served until 1801. Replaced as Governor by Joseph Bloomfield, Howell died the following year. He was the grandfather of Varina Howell, the second wife of Confederate President Jefferson Davis."
