$7.5 M request on Civil War center gives commissioners pause
The Cumberland County commissioners' finance committee took no action Thursday on a request to make a good-faith effort to find $7.5 million for a Civil War history center, even though the head of the project said the local community will need to have some "skin in the game" for the state to provide funding.
The committee decided against taking action after County Manager Amy Cannon said county staff members are looking at nine or 10 projects for which the county would be asked to contribute a total of about $41 million.
