End of July bonus: (and I think it's asking a bit too much from us :D)

That would be the 11th New Jersey regiment. The 6 different commanders were:
  1. Col. Robert McAllister
  2. Maj. Philip J. Kearney
  3. Cpt. Luther Martin
  4. Lt. John Schoonover (2x)
  5. Cpt. William H. Lloyd
  6. Cpt. Samuel T. Sleeper

Edit - If the question had asked for identification of the regiment and all six different commanders, it would have violated the rule that says no question may consist of more than six parts.

Since it was not entirely clear whether the question was asking for the name of the regiment or the names of the six different commanders, I am giving credit to answers which named either the regiment or the six commanders.

Edit - Sorry, 5ammom, Alabama was not one of the two states, but welcome to CivilWarTalk and to the trivia game.

Hope you'll come back and play again. We have a new game starting on Aug. 2. Note that normally a correct response is worth 10 points, but sometimes we have both a regular question and a bonus question, and players who answer both correctly will get 20 points instead of just 10.

2) the 11th NJ
Col. Robert MacAllister
Capt. Luther Martin
Lt. John Schoonover
Capt. William H. Lloyd
Capt. Samuel T. Sleeper
Li. John Schoonover for a second time, so technically only five different, but six total commands

Eleventh New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. At Gettysburg, on July 2, 1863, its Commanders were:
1. Col Robert McAllister (1813-1891);
2. Maj Philip J. Kearny (1841-1863);
3. Cpt Luther Martin (1826-1863);
4. Lt John Schoonover (1839-1930);
5. Cpt William H. Lloyd (1839-1907);
6. Cpt Samuel T. Sleeper (1823-1864);
Schoonover, who had been wounded three times, recovered enough to resume command on July 3, 1863.

The only 2 states with a population of slaves over the 50% margin were MISSISSIPPI and SOUTH CAROLINA. As for the Bonus Question,is it referring to the regiment or the commanders when it asks "Who were they"? The commanders of the 11th NEW JERSEY were COL.ROBERT MCALLISTER, MAJOR KEARNY, CAPT. LUTHER MARTIN, CAPT. WILLIAM LOYD, CAPT. SAMUEL T. SLEEPER, and LT. SCHOONOVER.
