Thankfully our national museum is reopening on May 10th after a very long hiatus. I'm planning a visit to the military section in particular the one that deals with soldiering abroad. I spotted this canteen on their webpage and was wondering is it ACW era or a later model.

The canteen itself could be from the Civil War and later retrofitted for later use, there was an incredible surplus left over, when the war ended. As others have commented, the canteen is definitely of the IW configuration, as is the cap and most likely the knapsack.

Good point about the amount of surplus of various items being massive. It would only make sense to upgrade some of them for future use.
