Civil War soldier letters with good battle content are few and far between. Ones with maps are even more so.
1st Lt. Daniel Kent Cross a resident of Hanover, New Hampshire served on General Caldwell’s staff in Hancock’s Division of the Famous 2nd Corps. He wrote this letter to his father on 8 May 1863 from a 'Camp near Falmouth, Va.', giving graphic details of the Battle of Chancellorsville. The map measures 9 ½ x 15 ½ inches.
