Does anyone have information on English style cartridges made in .54 cal. for the Mississippi or Lorenz rifles? At one point the Confederate Ordnance Department standardized the paper-wrapped, reversed ball cartridge so it stands to reason these would have been made in .54 cal. as well as .577/.58. Pictures would be helpful, but any specs would be great (e.g., paper dimensions, powder charge, ball type, etc.).
I have a reproduction Mississippi rifle in .54 and an Ideal 533476 mold. The ball is undersized for the bore - it actually mics at .531 - but I'm thinking an English-style cartridge with the lubricated wrapping paper should make it a nice fit. Any help would be appreciated.
