Kenesaw Mountain Landis - born Nov 20 1866 in Millville, Ohio, was the first Commissioner of Major League Baseball. His name was a spelling variation of "Kennesaw Mountain."

His father was Dr. Abraham Hoch Landis, Asst. Surgeon of the 35th Ohio Infantry. Dr. Landis was severely wounded at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain in June 1864 when a cannonball struck his leg*. He was mustered out Sept. 27, 1864 at Chattanooga, TN

"My father was badly wounded at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. He named me after the place. I've always been grateful he came through the Battle of Bull Run without a scratch." ~ Judge Kennesaw Mountain Landis (quoted in 1959.)

I guess Judge Landis felt the name "Kenesaw Mountain Landis" was preferable to "Bull Run Landis"? :bounce:
