BONUS: Adam Rankin "Stovepipe" Johnson after he was accidentally shot in the head by one of his own troopers. He was said to have been blinded by the fire, but he wore some strange glasses until his death that suggests that he didn't totally lose his vision. http://trrcobb.blogspot.com/2012/10/stovepipe-story-of-civil-war-hero.html
Johnson (1834-1922) lived in Kentucky and Texas and was a noted frontiersman. When the ACW errupted he joined Forrest's Battalion and later raised the 10th Kentucky Partisan Rangers. He gained the nickname "Stovepipe" after he captured the town of Newburgh (Indiana) with just a small troop, quelling resistance with two Quaker guns made from stovepipes. Later he commanded a brigade under Morgan, being able to escape from his ill-fated raid. In 1864 he was accidently shot and blinded by one of his men and became a POW. Because of this his promotion to Brigadier was not confirmed by Congress. After the war he returned to Texas and found the town of Marble Falls; outliving most of his contemporary generals.
