I found a number of sources containing the quote "The combination of Yankee artillery with Rebel infantry would make an army that could be beaten by no one."

All of them ascribe the quote to "a Southern officer." None of them identify him by name. :frown:

So I have to guess. My guess is Edward Porter Alexander.

As all my sources quote:
A Southern officer observed, "The combination of Yankee artillery with Rebel infantry would make an army that could be beaten by no one." (without naming the officer)

Wikipedia - Field Artillery in the American Civil War - under Confederate Artillery (with no footnote to indicate where they got the quote from)

On CWT I found the following post:

Post #6 - gives a tepid response and credit to a similar quote to General D.H. Hill

Daniel H. Hill (1821-1889).
Source
Oliver Jensen, Editor, Bruce Catton's America: Selections From His Greatest Works. (Rockville, MD: American Heritage Publishing, 2017), p. 153. Catton paraphrased Hill as saying, "Give me Confederate infantry and Yankee artillery an I'll whip the world."

Edit - The question was, indeed, asking for the name of a specific person, so I can't give credit for the answer of "a Southern officer," which is supported by numerous sources that don't name the officer.

This was a very tough question, since it referred to a quote from a book without reproducing the book's words exactly. Kudos to those who were able to figure out the correct answer.
