This is the last question for January, tomorrow we begin a new game!

Tonight's Civil War Trivia Question Value: 10 points, 1 bonus point goes to the player with the first answer. This question will be open until Thursday between 9 and 10pm EDT, when another question will be posted! As usual: Please do not post your answers anywhere but in this forum!

How many Union Generals were killed or mortally wounded in battles during the American Civil War?

The number goes up to 67 if you include those who were awardrd the rank after their mortal wounding or death.
 
Ezra Warner in his book Generals in Blue lists 47 Union Generals were "killed in action or died of wounds". page xxi

Derek Smith on the other hand claims that 45 Union Generals "of whom 45 died of combat injuries." page vi; The Gallant Dead

Why the difference in opinion?
Both authors use a slightly different interpretation of the definition for "mortally wounded". By definition "death need not be instantaneous, but follows soon after." How soon after?
