… But getting back on topic, are we gonna stay in Harpers Ferry? I might disappear during a tour or something and someone spot me on the side of the Maryland Heights, but Harpers Ferry holds an equal, if not superior appeal to me than Antietam, and I believe they are close together.
A suggestion for you, Tom, and @archieclement who I know favors this sort of thing: In case it hasn't already been mentioned, Harper's Ferry is the location of an old but evidently satisfactory KOA Campground, located right outside the entrance to Harper's Ferry NHS. My friend and fellow forum member Doug @1863surgeon has stayed there before, though it was decades ago; we saw and passed by it last April, 2018 during our marathon vacation.

Did you find this on the NPS website or somewhere else ?
From Mannie Gentile's site (see above) . He was an Antietam ranger several years ago . He stopped by the VC but the rangers hadn't seen any official plans yet . The only official info is about the observation tower closing . Mannie has a lot of NPS contacts so I'm betting it's true. He is at the National Mall now , but will be working at Monocacy for a few months starting in January .

Well... if you stayed for the reenactment, you have several days to climb Maryland Heights (and Loudoun Heights?) to your heart's content without needing to skip out of the Antietam program.

I would suggest planning plenty of time to hike either one. I needed upward of 3.5 hours for each one. Granted, it was summer = hot (and it was raining when I hiked Loudoun Heights), but both hikes aren't easy because they're quite steep. They're really worth it, but take your time. You'll be out of breath quickly enough.

Wonder if we need to hang around to catch him? :help:

Yeah but then it doesn't become a CWT scandal with Jeremiah Johnson inspired jokes about Thayer's Approach.

Surely they ain't as bad as Thayer's Approach and the small mountain I fell off of at the Cane Hill battlefield. I did have to stop for a break or two at Thayer's Approach.
