I was captured at the battle of Missionary Ridge, but was released on parole for the remainder of the war. I acquired and resold 360 bales of cotton, which made me very wealthy. I recognized the potential of the Chattanooga Area; and formed the South Chattanooga Land Company acquiring much land – including Missionary Ridge. Who Am I?

I didn't find anything abour the capture at Missionary Ridge or the 360 bales of cotton, but I found a part of the question verbatim, so my answer is that you are Colonel John Lowery (or Lowry) Divine
