Henry B. Meigs, born November 23, 1844, apparently served as a private in Company K, 13th Vermont during the war, including at Gettysburg. In 1866 or 1867, Meigs was elected captain of a cavalry troop in Colorado, to help suppress an insurrection by Native Americans.

Some of the company commanders of the 13th Vermont at Gettysburg:
Company A - Captain John Lonergan (variant spelling Loneigan) (A was an Irish company)
Company B - Captain Orcus C. Wilder (from Waitsfield, Vermont)
    Company C - Captain Lewis L. Coburn
Company G - Captain Merritt Bates Williams (killed July 2); Lt. Clark (possibly Albert Clarke, slightly wounded July 3)
    Company K - Captain George G. Blake.

Definitely the best regiment book written by Civil War veterans I have ever come across.

Oh boy, sideburns must really have been thee fashionable style of the day for gentlemen around the turn of the century! At first glance I thought it was General Longstreet who stood next to the monument in the first photo!
