Kathleen Mavourneen! the grey dawn is breaking
The horn of the hunter is heard on the hill,
The lark from her light wing the bright dew is shaking
Kathleen Mavourneen--what, slumbering still!
O hast thou forgotten how soon we must sever?
O hast thou forgotten this day we must part?
It may be for years, and it may be forever;
Oh, why art thou silent, thou voice of my heart?
It may be for years, and it may be forever;
Then why art thou silent, Kathleen Mavourneen?

I know this one well! Kathleen Mavourneen. (I may have misspelled.) Of course it's best known among us CW fans from the scene in Gettysburg in which Armistead reminisces to Longstreet about the farewell party with Hancock and his wife. This song was quite popular back in those days, but I also remember singing it in school music class, back in 1946-47. (It was a small school in a small rural community, so the music class included grades 3 through 12. There was only one 12th grader, and she was the first to graduate from that high school in several years.)
