In Carter County Kentucky, October 1862, this General burned over 40 homes in this town, one of which, being the home of a state senator. The general said to the senator,

"You find your loyalty to your abolitionist pretty expensive, don't you?"

Grier who later wrote about his encounter with Morgan and his men. According to Grier, Morgan ordered his home torched, declaring "You find your loyalty to your abolitionist pretty expensive, don't you?"

3) The burning took place on the road between Grayson and Olive Hill, but if I have to name just one town, according to my first source that would be Olive Hill, KY

2. Who was the senator? Kentucky State Sen. William C. Grier (1819-1881).

The Story in Short----In the first days of October 1862, Morgan and his men burned some 40 homes along the road from Grayson to Olive Hill in Kentucky. Among those who lost their homes was State Sen.
