One of the Lincoln conspirators that was tried and executed, had previously served in the Army of Northern Virginia and participated in the battle of Gettysburg where he was wounded.
Who was the conspirator and what regiment did he served with at Gettysburg?

The conspirator was Lewis Thornton Powell (April 22, 1844 – July 7, 1865), also known as Lewis Payne and Lewis Paine, who attempted to assassinate United States Secretary of State William H. Seward on April 14, 1865.

At Gettysburg he served in the 2nd Florida Infantry which participated in Pickett's Charge on July 3. Powell, however, was shot in the right wrist on July 2 which prevented his participation in the charge.

That was Lewis Powell aka Lewis Payne aka Lewis Paine.

At Gettysburg, his regiment was the 2nd Florida Infantry, Perry's Brigade, Anderson's Division, Hill's Corps.

"On May 30, 1861, Lewis Powell joined up with the Hamilton Blues which later became a company of the 2nd Florida Infantry"

"As part of the 2nd Florida Infantry, Powell saw battle during the Peninsula Campaign and at the Battle of Chancellorsville. In the summer of 1863, the 2nd Florida Infantry became a part of the Army of Northern Virginia and were, therefore, present at the Battle of Gettysburg."

At Gettysburg, Powell’s unit was part of Perry’s Brigade, which consisted of the 2nd, 5th, and 8th Florida Infantry combined."

Lewis Thornton Payne, born in Randolph County, Alabama, served with the Army of Northern Virginia's Mosby's Rangers at Gettysburg, where he was wounded, before becoming a co-conspirator, tried and executed, for his part in the assassination of President Lincoln. Bless him, doesn't he look like the youth of today, just a bit more tattered?

Lewis Powell in the 2nd Florida Infantry was injured by being shot in the wrist at Gettysburg.
Another fact about Powell is that he was kicked by a mule as a child and was facially permanently disfigured from this occurence.
I find it interesting that his assasination attempt also involved facial injuries for Seward. What a brutal outcome!
