I was a youthful musician in the 29th Iowa during the war. I claimed to be 15 when I enlisted, but was probably actually 13. Later in life, I starred on the Silver Screen alongside the likes of Mary Pickford, Rudolf Valentino, and Lon Chaney. Ironically, I portrayed a Confederate colonel in one of my 139 films. Who am I?

My guess is the great Joseph J. Dowling, who was born on September 4, 1850 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Dowling served as a drummer boy in Company G of the 29th Iowa Infantry Regiment. After the war he became a very popular silent film star in Hollywood. By the way, after playing a round of golf with my friends several years ago, the course had a restaurant and bar that had trivia competitions. My friends encouraged me to participate, since I was the smartest one in the group and I ended up easily winning the contest and our meals and drinks were free as a result. One of the questions dealt with the famous actor Joseph J. Dowling. David.
