Bonus: Eighteen. 25 African-Americans won the Medal of Honor for actions during the Civil War. However, seven of those were sailors in the U. S. Navy, so only eighteen were soldiers in the USCT or other Army units.

As far as I know, no African-Americans (nor anybody else) won an award called the "Metal" of Honor.

Answer: Gen. Alexander Webb. After leaving the service, Webb became president of the City College of New York in 1869 and remained in that position until 1902. The sport of basketball was invented in 1891. CCNY won the NIT and NCAA titles in 1950.

bonus
answer: 25

Edit - Since the official answer to the bonus question is 25, those players who gave that answer will receive credit.

Since the question specifically asked for the number of soldiers, rather than the total number of African-Americans, those players who gave the answer of 18 will also receive credit.
