Who am I?

"Farewell Mother!Tears are streaming
Down thy pale and tender cheek;
In gems and roses gleaming.
Farewell Mother! Now I leave thee;
Hopes and Fears my bosom swell;
Them to trust who may deceive me--
Farewell Mother! Fare thee well!"
****on and on***
"Mother!Sister!Brother!Cousin!
All beloved ones, Fare thee well."

The title of the quoted song is A Bride's Farewell, so you must be the bride.

You are a innocent young bride exchanging her home for a uncertain future

Sheet music cover image of the song 'the Brides Farewell', with original authorship notes reading 'the Words by Miss ML Beevor Composed by Thos Williams', United States, 1900. The publisher is listed as 'E. Riley, No. 29 Chatham...

There are a number of songs that begin with the same words as what is shown here, but I can't find one that matches all of these words - and the question asks "Who," rather than "What," so it doesn't seem as though the correct answer would be a song.

I have no answer for this one.

I guess you are a bride?
This is a stanza from the song "The Bride's Farewell." The lyrics were apparently plagiarized (with a few minor changes) by "Miss MC Beevor" (or Edward J Porter?) from the original poem written by Edward Lear and published in 1846 in Complete Verse and Other Nonsense. The 1900 sheet music cover for the song 'the Bride's Farewell A Favorite Ballad', includes an original authorship note reading 'the Poetry by Miss MC Beevor Composed by Thomas Williams for the Piano Forte', 1900. http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/n...rides-farewell-a-favorite-picture-id727069023

Hmmm, probably I miss something here, I cannot make any connection to the American Civil War other that the song was sung quite often during that era ...
The song is about a young and innocent bride...
If the lyrics of this song from 1834 are autobiographic (which I
doubt, since the author has written so many poems), you are Miss M. L. Beevor

Another source names this poem "Bard's Farwell" by Edward Lear.

But as this version is slightly different I will stay with Miss M. L. Beevor. For all that it's worth...
