In the Gettysburg campaign and Pickett's Charge, general Pickett's Division was strongly reduced in size due to the absence of two of his Brigades (3700 men).
What Brigades was it, and where did they serve during the Gettysburg Campaign?

At the beginning of the Gettysburg campaign the South Carolina Brigade under Micah Jenkins was ordered to guard Richmond while the Virginia Brigade under Montgomery Corse was ordered to remain in the area of Taylorsville

"Originally, Pickett’s Division had five brigades of infantry, one of which was from South Carolina. But during their arrival at Petersburg, Virginia, Colonel Micah Jenkins’ South Carolina Brigade was detached and ordered to stand guard around Richmond, Virginia. Soon afterward, Pickett began to march his men to Chester Station where they would encamp. After a few days, the march was resumed and upon reaching Taylorsville, Pickett’s Division would encamp there during the rest of May. As June neared, General Montgomery D. Corse’s Virginia Brigade was detached from Pickett’s Division and was ordered to remain in the area of Taylorsville."

The brigades of Brig. Gen. Micah Jenkins (1st and 2nd South Carolina Infantry, Hampton's Legion, Palmetto Rifles) and Brig. Gen. Montgomery Corse (15th, 17th, 30th, 32nd Virginia Infantry) were detached from Pickett’s Division during Gettysburg, to cover the Richmond area, and operate in the Virginia Tidewater region. Corse Brigade continued garrison duty in the Blackwater River area, and Jenkins brigade policed Petersburg and Richmond.

Micah Jenkins' Brigade and Montgomery Corse's Brigade from Pickett’s Division had been left behind to cover the Richmond area.

Montgomery D. Corse's brigade was stationed at Hanover Junction VA (north of Richmond). Micah Jenkin's brigade was on the Blackwater River near Suffolk VA, but relocated to the Richmond VA area. Both brigades active and in movement in response to Federal General John Dix's maneuvers near White House VA and on the Peninsula in late June 1863.

The two brigades detached from Pickett's Division were Micah Jenkins and Montgomery Corse. This reduction in force made Pickett's Division the smallest in Lee's Army at Gettysburg. The two brigades were left behind before the march north in order to defend the Richmond area. David.

General Montgomery Corse’s Brigade, and General Micah Jenkins’ Brigade.

Along with the rest of Pickett’s Division, Corse’s and Jenkins’ Brigades spent the first few months of 1863 operating in the Virginia “Tidewater” area, but when the Confederate Army began to move northward, both brigades were detached. On July 3, 1863, Corse’s Brigade remained on garrison duty in the area around Suffolk and Jenkins’ Brigade was remained and helped guard Petersburg and Richmond.
