General Bragg’s Chattanooga Bye-Bye
(a song to the tune “Chattanooga Choo Choo”)

Pardon me Bragg, you had a rout in Chattanooga,
It was a fight, but the Yanks got it right.
You’ve had a time, dealing with in-fighting.
Your generals are mad, sure made us glad.

You had your Forrest, Hill, Bruckner, Hardee all hating you,
Longstreet, Polk and Breckenridge are right up there too.
Nothing gives us pleasure, a victory to treasure
when we marched on that mountain top - - - -
We had Hooker, Sherman, Thomas and a man they called Sam,
when the fight was over we saw you army scram.
Heading back to Richmond, get your new position,
Bye-Bye - Braxton - there you go!

Back with the boss, you’re on to facing new adventures,
What will you do, is there a job left for you?
Find your old friend, as through the Georgia countryside he fights,
After Chattanooga’s failure, Bragg can you get this right?

  1. Who was General Bragg assigned to go after?
  2. Where in Georgia was Bragg headed to find him?
  3. What business made that location a “presumed” target of interest for the Union to attack and the Confederates to defend?
credit: @DBF

Bonus:

A few months before John Wilkes Booth assassinated President Lincoln, the president’s oldest son, Robert Todd Lincoln, almost fell to his death. Where was he and who saved his life?

NOT TRIVIA MONDAY DUE TO MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY

!. Rosecrans
2. Crawfish Springs
3. Lee and Gordon Mills

Bonus Q.--City Point, Va., John Rawlins.

Edit - Bragg met Rosecrans at the Battle of Chickamauga, near Crawfish Springs and Lee and Gordons Mills, but that took place before Bragg's defeat at Chattanooga, and the question is clearly asking about Bragg being sent someplace after Chattanooga.

John Rawlins was a top aide to Grant at City Point, but I can find nothing about his having done anything there to save the life of Robert Todd Lincoln.

Robert Lincoln was on a crowded train platform in Jersey City, New Jersey, and either in the crush of people, he was pushed or he slipped and fell into the open space between the train and the platform. If not for the elder brother of John W. Booth, Edwin Booth (the famous actor) grabbing him by the collar and pulling him to safety, the president’s family would have lost another son during his White House service.

1. W.T. Sherman
2. Macon, Georgia
3. Munitions manufacturing.

Bonus:
where: On the platform of a railroad station in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Who: Edwin Booth, brother of JWB

Edit - Bragg was sent to Augusta. Macon is not close enough to Augusta for me to give credit for this answer.

Regular question :

After Chattanooga Bragg served first as military adviser for Jefferson Davis ("the boss", hahaa!)
As for his new adventure, I'd think that is:

1) Who: General Joe Johnston
2) Where: Atlanta
3) Why: Railroad/logistics. Atlanta was a railroad hub and an important center for military operations and supply lines.

"Bragg was ordered to Atlanta as an observer. He met with Joseph E. Johnston a number of times between July 13 and July 15, 1864, after which he advised Davis that the man who had replaced him as Commander of the Army of Tennessee had no plans to do any more than he had already done"

"Atlanta was used as a center for military operations and as a supply route by the Confederate army during the Civil War. Therefore, it also became a target for the Union army"

Bonus:

John Wilkes Booth's brother Edwin Booth saved Abraham Lincoln's son, Robert, from serious injury or even death. The incident occurred on a train platform in Jersey City, New Jersey. The exact date of the incident is uncertain, but it is believed to have taken place in late 1864 or early 1865.

Edit - Sorry, Gettysburg Bullet, your answer is incorrect. See edit to post # 4 above for an explanation.

1. W. T. Sherman;
2. Augusta, Georgia;
3. the Augusta Powder Works.

While returning to Washington from his studies at Harvard, Robert Lincoln fell from a train platform in a railroad station in Jersey City, New Jersey where he was about to be crushed by a moving train. He was pulled to safety by actor Edwin T. Booth, brother of John W. Booth.

At the beginning of the March to the Sea Bragg was sent to take charge of the Georgia Militia and garrison troops to defend Milledgeville and the Augusta Powder Works that supplied most of the gunpowder used by the Confederacy, but Sherman for some unaccountable reason chose to ignore the obvious viable military targets and head for Savannah instead, taking the war to the helpless civilian population.

Edit - Bragg was sent to Augusta. Milledgeville is not close enough to Augusta for me to give credit for this answer.

Regular question:
1. Joseph E. Johnston - Jefferson Davis sent Bragg to find out what exactly Johnston was planning to stop Sherman's advance on Atlanta.
2. Atlanta
3. The POW camp at Andersonville which lay some 120 miles south of Atlanta. Johnston - and then Hood - feared that Sherman could send a cavalry expedition south to free the prisoners which would cause a panic among the Confederate population and disrupt production of goods the Confederate army needed.

Sources: Wikipedia, Atlanta 1864: Last Chance for the Confederacy by Richard M. McMurry (p. 141), The Diary of Edmund Ruffin: A Dream Shattered, June 1863 - June 1865 (p. 491-492), OR 38 part 5 p. 876, The Civil War Volume III: Red River to Appomattox by Shelby Foote

Edit - The question asked about what was at the location to which Bragg was sent, which was Atlanta. Andersonville is too far from Atlanta for me to give credit for this answer.
