Assuming this is a "Who am I" question, the answer is VMI Cadet Thomas Garland Jefferson, age 17; shot in the stomach during the Battle of New Market He made this statement when 2 comrades fell out to give him aid. He was later carried from the field and found by his good friend Cadet Corporal Moses Ezekiel in a farmhouse; he died in Ezekiel's arms on May 18, 1864. Ezekiel survived the war to become a famous sculpture artist; Jefferson is buried below the statue of Virginia Mourning Her Dead, located at VMI, sculpted by Ezekiel.
Edit - Actually, the question was "Who told his comrades" (the words in question).
