June 30, 1861 - Pursued by the USS Brooklyn, the Confederate warship, the CSS Sumter, slips past the Union blockade at the mouth of the Mississippi River, near New Orleans, LA, and heads for the open seas.

June 30, 1862 - William Bowen Campbell, USA, is appointed Brig. Gen.

June 30, 1862 - Skirmish at Adams' Bluff, AR.

June 30, 1862 - The Federal naval bombardment of Tampa, FL. (Jun 30-Jul 1)

June 30, 1862 - Skirmish at Henderson, KY.

June 30, Affair at Powell River, TN.

June 30, 1862 - Skirmish at Rising (or Morning) Sun, TN, as Confederate Cavalry harass Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant's, USA, supply train.

June 30, 1862 - The Battle of Glendale, Nelson's Farm, Charles City Cross-Roads, New Market Cross Roads, Frazier's Farm, White Oak Swamp, Turkey Bend, or Willis' Church, VA, as Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan, USA, repulses Maj. Gen. James Longstreet, CSA, with McClellan retreating to Malvern Hill. Day six of the Seven Days.

June 30, 1863 - Attack on Goodrich's Landing, LA.

June 30, 1863 - The Federal evacuation of Maryland Heights, MD. (Harper's Ferry)

June 30, 1863 - Skirmish at Westminster, MD.

June 30. 1863 - Skirmish near Hudson's River, Neosho River, MO.

June 30, 1863 - Skirmish at Fairfield, PA, as Lieut. Gen. Richard S. Ewell, CSA, heads towards Gettysburg, PA.

June 30, 1863 - Action at Hanover, PA, with Maj. Gen. JEB Stuart, CSA, who barely escapes capture himself.

June 30, 1864 - Actions on Four-Mile Creek, at Deep Bottom, VA, the Richmond, VA, Campaign. (Jun 30-July 1)

June 30, 1864 - Lieut. Gen. Jubal A. Early, CSA, occupies New Market, VA, on his way to invade the North.

June 30, 1864 - President Abraham Lincoln accepts Salmon P. Chase, the US Secretary of the Treasury's, resignation.

June 30, 1865 - Andrew Johnson names Benjamin F. Perry provisional governor of South Carolina.

June 30, 1865 - Skirmish with Indians at Rock Creek, the Dakota Territory, where the Indians are reported to have ran off 60 head of cattle from Rock Creek and killing one soldier. Also at Willow Springs Station they have stolen all the stock belonging to the stage coach company.

June 30, 1865 - Maj. Gen. Henry W. Halleck, US, relinquishes his command of the Military Division of the James, VA.

June 30, 1865 - The US Military Tribunal finds all of the following guilty of conspiring to murder President Abraham Lincoln with the following sentences doled out:
Samuel Arnold - life imprisonment
George Atzerodt - death by hanging
David Herold - death by hanging
Dr. Samuel Mudd - life imprisonment
Michael O'Laughlin - life imprisonment
Lewis Payne - death by hanging
Edward Spangler - 6 yrs. imprisonment
Mrs. Mary Surratt - death by hanging

June 30, 1940 - Control of the Weather Bureau passes to the Department of Commerce.
