June 14, 1861 - Robert Edward Lee. C.S.A.. is appointed Full Confederate General.

June 14, 1861 - Stephen Augustus Hurlbut, USA, is appointed Brig. Gen.

June 14, 1861 - Federal expedition near Seneca Mills, MD, under Brig. Gen. Charles P. Stone, USA, with skirmish.

June 14, 1861 - Harper's Ferry, WV, is evacuated by Brig. Gen. Joseph E. Johnston, CSA, after receiving word of the arrival of Federal troops from the west under Maj. Gen. George Brinton McClellan, and from the north under Gen. Robert Patterson; Johnston withdrawing to the vicinity of Winchester, VA.

June14, 1862 - Federal expedition from Pensacola to Milton, FL. (Jun 14-15)

June 14, 1862 - Skirmish at Clear Creek, near Baldwyn, MS, with Col. John F. Lay, CSA.

June 14, 1862 - Confederate bushwhackers fire into a railroad train near Turnstall Station, VA, killing 4 and wounding 8.

June 14, 1863 - Nathaniel Banks orders a ground assault against Port Hudson but fails to breach the walls.

June 14, 1863 - The burning of Eunice, AR, by the Federals after the Confederate attack on the Union ironclad, USS Marmora.

June 14, 1863 - Col. William P. Sanders' Raid in East Tennessee. (Jun 14-24)

June 14, 1863 - Col. William Sanders' command sets out from Mount Vernon, KY.

June 14, 1863 - Skirmish near Green Hill, TN.

June 14, 1863 - Skirmish at Berryville, VA.

June 14, 1863 - Skirmish at Nine-Mile Ordinary, VA.

June 14, 1863 - Skirmish at Martinsburg, WV.

June 14, 1864 - At Pine Mountain, near Marietta, GA, during the opening of the Atlanta, GA, Campaign, Gen. Leonidas Polk is killed instantly by a Federal Artillery shell through his chest, while he sat upon his horse examining the Federal position with Confederate Lieut. Gens. Joseph E. Johnston and William Joseph Hardee.

June 14, 1864 - Hylan Benton Lyon, CSA, is appointed Brig. Gen.

June 14, 1864 - The USS Kearsarge lies in wait for the CSS Alabama, off the port of Cherbourg, France.

June 14, 1864 - Skirmish near Lexington, MO, where the guerrillas attack the Yankees.

June 14, 1864 - Raid on Melville, MO, where bushwhackers burn the town.

June 14, 1864 - Federal scouts from Pleasant Hill, MO, in search of guerrillas. (Jun 14-16)

June 14, 1864 - Skirmish at Bean's Station, TN.

June 14, 1864 - Skirmish in Lincoln County, TN.

June 14, 1864 - Skirmish near Harrison's Landing, VA, the Richmond, VA, Campaign.

June 14, 1864 - Affair at New Glasgow, VA, Shenandoah Valley, The Lynchburg, VA, Campaign.

June 14, 1865 - Action with Indians at Horse Creek, the Dakota Territory, where approximately 2,000 Sioux attack and kill 4 Yankees, wounding 4 others. The Federals circle the wagons but the Indians withdraw.

June 14, 1865 - Col. Carroll H. Potter, 6th US Volunteer Infantry, assumes the command of the South Sub-District of the Plains, Dakota.

June 14, 1876 - June 16, 1876 - The three-day Republican Convention in Cincinnati, Ohio (Hayes home state) shifted its support from front runner James Blaine to Rutherford B. Hayes on the second ballot.
 
Today marks the 160th Anniversary of when Harper's Ferry was evacuated by the Confederate Army with the advance of General McClellan's advance.
