June 11, 1861 - Col. Edward Richard Sprigg Canby, USA, reports that Col. Loring, USA, has abandoned his command of the Union Dept. of New Mexico Territory.

June 11, 1861 - Col. Edward Richard Sprigg Canby, 19th US Infantry, is placed in general charge of affairs in the Federal Dept. of the New Mexico Territory.

June 11, 1864 - Federal expedition from Point Lookout, MD, aboard the steam transports, Charleston, Georgia, Favorite, and the Long Branch to Pope's Creek, VA. The expedition captures large amounts of Confederate livestock, horses, rifles, etc. (Jun 11-21)

Today marks the 157th Anniversary of the start of the two day battle of Cynthiana Kentucky. This battle was part of Morgan's raid into Kentucky. The battle took place on June 11th and 12th 1864 in Cynthiana Kentucky which is in Harrison County Kentucky. The result of this battle was a Union Victory. Union Army Commanders were Brigadier General Stephen G. Burbridge and Brigadier General Edward H. Hobson as well as Conrad Garis commanding a force of 2,400. Casualties and Losses for the Union Army were 1,092. Confederate Army Commanders were Brig. General John Hunt Morgan, H. L. Glitner, D. Howard Smith and Robert M. Martin commanding a force of 1,200. Casualties and Losses for the Confederate Army were 1,000.

Today marks the anniversary of the start of the two day battle of Trevilian Station Virginia. This battle was fought June 11th - June 12th 1864 and was part of the Overland Campaign. The battle was fought in Louisa County Virginia. The result of the battle was a Confederate tactical victory and led to a Union Successful withdrawal. Confederate Army Commanders were Major General Wade Hampton and Major General Fitzhugh Lee commanding a cavalry force of 6,762. Casualties and Losses were 803. Union Cavalry Commander was Major General Philip H. Sheridan commanding a force of 9,286. Casualties and Losses were 150 killed, 738 wounded and 624 captured/missing.
