May 23, 1865 - Federal scout from Pine Bluff to Monticello, AR, with skirmish (May 24) at Monticello, as the Yankees pursue a party of Confederates under Captain Kidd who have not yet surrendered. (May 23-27)

May 23, 1865 - Maj. Gen. William B. Hazen, USA, assumes the command of the 15th US Army Corps, FL.

May 23, 1865 - Federal scout from Thibodeaux by way of Brule Texas, passing through Labadierville, to Lake Verret, LA.

May 23, 1865 - Federal scout from Warrensburg, MO, to the mouth of Coal Camp Creek, near the Osage, as the Yankees track bushwhackers accused of killing 12 discharged soldiers and citizens in Hickory and Benton Counties. (May 23-26)

May 23, 1865 - Skirmish 10 miles northwest of Waynesville, MO, as the Yankees attack a band of bushwackers, inflicting casualties.

May 23, 1865 - Grand Review of the Army of the Potomac.

Today marks the 159th Anniversary of the Battle of Front Royal/Guard Hill/Cedarville Virginia. The battle was part of Jackson's Shenandoah Valley Campaign. This battle took place in Warren County Virginia. The Confederate Commander was Major General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson commanding 3,000. Casualties and Losses for the Confederacy were 36 killed and wounded. on the Union side commanding was Colonel John Reese Kenly. The Union force 1,063. Casualties and Losses for the Union were 83 killed and wounded and 691 Captured.

Today marks the first day of the 157th Anniversary of the Battle of North Anna Virginia. This battle was fought May 23rd - May 26th. The result of this battle was inconclusive. Confederate Commander was General Robert E. Lee Commanding the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia. The strength of the Confederate Army was 50,000 - 53,000. Casualties and Losses were 124 Killed, 704 wounded and 724 Missing/Captured. The Union Army Commanders were Lt. General Ulysses S. Grant and Major General George Meade. The Union Strength was 67,000 - 100,000. Casualties and Losses were 591 Killed, 2,734 wounded and 661 Captured/Missing.

Today marks the 160th​ anniversary of the Battle of Front Royal. This battle is also called the Battle of Guard Hill and Battle of Cedarville. This battle was part of Jackson's Valley campaign. The battle took place on May 23rd​, 1862. Location of the battle was Warren County, Virginia.

Battle of North Anna:
Today marks the 158th​ anniversary of the start of the four – day battle of North Anna. This battle has parts known as Battle of Telegraph Road Bridge, Battle of Jericho Mills, Battle of Ox Ford, Battle of Quarles Mill, and Battle of Hanover Junction. The battle was fought May 23rd​, 1864 thru May 26th​, 1864. The battle was part of the Overland campaign. The battle took place in Caroline County and Hanover County, Virginia.
