April 22, 1861 - The US Arsenal at Fayetteville, NC, is seized by the North Carolina state troops.

April 22, 1861 - The Clarksburg (present-day West Virginia) Convention calls for a anti-secessionist convention to be held in May, 1861

April 22, 1861 - Maryland Governor Thomas Holliday Hicks calls a session of the Maryland legislature to consider secession.

April 22, 1862 - The Confederate capture of Union launches belonging to the USS Arthur, in Arkansas Pass, TX.

April 22, 1862 - Harrisonburg, VA, is occupied by Union forces.

April 22, 1862 - The Federal occupation of, and skirmish near, Luray, VA, by Maj. Gen. Nathaniel P. Banks, USA.

April 22, 1865 - Federal scout from Deer Creek to Sage Creek, the Dakota Territory, and skirmish with Indians (Apr 22) on the Sage Creek with encounter with Cheyenne and Sioux Indians. The Indians, attacking at night, are driven off; losses can't be determined as the Indians carry off all dead and wounded. (Apr 22-23)
April 22, 1865 - Skirmish at Buzzard Roost, GA, with Brig. Gen. James H. Wilson, USA, and his Union cavalry.

April 22, 1865 - Maj. Gen. Nathaniel P. Banks, USA, resumes the command of the Dept. of the Gulf, LA.

April 22, 1865 - Skirmish with guerrillas near the mouth of the Big Gravois, MO, near the Osage.

April 22, 1865 - Skirmish near Linn Creek, MO, where the Yankees kill several guerrillas.

Gen. Banks was quite fortunate that he had political connections.
