March 24, 1837 - Canada gives its black citizens the right to vote.

March 24, 1854 – Slavery is abolished in Venezuela.

March 24, 1856 - President Franklin Pierce sends all "...documents touching the affairs of the Territory of Kansas" between the dates of January 1, 1855 and June 30, 1855 to the House of Representatives to comply with an earlier request.

March 24, 1862 - Mahlon Dickerson Manson, USA, is appointed Brig. Gen.

March 24, 1862 - The siege of Island No. 10 is ongoing.

March 24, 1862 - Riot at abolition meeting in Cincinnati, Ohio.

March 24, 1862 - Albert Sidney Johnston's Army arrives at Corinth, Mississippi from Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

March 24, 1862 - Maj. Gen. Theophilus Hunter Holmes, CSA, supersedes Brig. Gen. Joseph Reid Anderson, CSA, in command of the Dept. of North Carolina.

March 24, 1863 - Federal expedition to Hermitage Landing, or Ponchatoula, LA.

March 24, 1863 - Skirmish on Davis’ Mill Road near LaGrange, Tennessee, Forrest attacks Brentwood and captures a Federal garrison.

March 24, 1863 - A small skirmish at Black Bayou marked the end of General William Tecumseh Sherman's attempt to find an unguarded water route into Vicksburg.

March 24, 1863 - Skirmishes at Danville, KY, with Brig. Gen. John Pegram, CSA.

March 24, 1863 - Union amphibious expedition skirmishes with Confederates, Steele's Bayou, Mississippi.

March 24, 1864 - Federal expedition from Batesville to Coon Creek, Devil's Fork of the Red River, and skirmish (Mar 27) near Cross-Roads, AR.

March 24, 1864 - Nathan Bedford Forrest seizes Union City, Tennessee.

March 24, 1864 - Skirmish (Mar 24) at Oil Trough Bottom and skirmish (Mar 27) near Cross-Roads, AR, with guerrillas.

March 24, 1864 - Skirmish near Goodrich's Landing, LA.

March 24, 1864 - Federal expedition from Camp Lincoln, under Brig. Gen. Benjamin Alvord, USA, commanding the District of Oregon, near Canyon City, to Harney Valley, Oregon, with skirmishes with Indians, as the Yankees move against Indians who are stealing horses and mules from ranches in the area.

March 24, 1864 - Maj. Gen. Winfield S. Hancock, USA, resumes the command of 2nd US Army Corps, the Army of the Potomac.

March 24, 1864 - The 3rd US Army Corps is discontinued, and the troops are distributed to the 2nd and the 6th US Army Corps, the Army of the Potomac.

March 24, 1864 - Skirmish near Goodrich's Landing, LA.

March 24, 1865 - The siege of Petersburg is ongoing.

March 24, 1865 - Affair about 7 miles west of Rolla, MO, on the Springfield Road, where guerrillas dressed in Union garb surprise and capture a band of Yankees taking a breather along the road. The Union officers are attacked in the nearby house they went into to get a drink of water, firing through the window and killing a mounted guerrilla; the rest take off with their Yankee prisoners.

March 24, 1865 - Skirmish near Moccasin Creek, NC.

March 24, 1865 - affairs near Dannelly's Mills, AL, and near Evergreen, AL, in the Mobile, Al campaign.

March 24, 1865 - The CSS Stonewall embarks from the port of Ferrol, Spain, as the two wooden US frigates, USS Niagara and USS Sacramento fail to challenge her. The commanding Union Naval officer, Commodore T. T. Craven will later be court martialed for his lack of action.

March 24, 1868 - Following the ratification of the 14th Amendment, the New Jersey legislature voted through a resolution of rescission. Governor Marcus L. Ward then vetoed the rescission. On this date, New Jersey readopted the rescission over the governor's veto.
